What is 3D Printing? An Overview.

3d printer collage
We hear about 3D printing from newscasters and journalists, astonished at what they’ve witnessed. A machine reminiscent of the Star Trek Replicator, something magical that can create objects out of thin air. It can “print” in plastic, metal, nylon, and over a hundred other materials. It can be used for making nonsensical little models like the over-printed Yoda, yet it can also print manufacturing prototypes, end user products, quasi-legal gunsaircraft engine parts and even human organs using a person’s own cells.

First Flight of 3D Printed Plane

You no longer need high-tech machines to create a plane. Armed with a 3D printer, Jim Scanlan from the University of Southampton and his team designed and built a drone in just a week. Even moving parts were produced all in one go - doing away with the need for assembly. In this video, you can watch the plane take to the skies for the first time in an airfield close to Stonehenge in the UK.
To find out more about the project, read our full story here.

The Evil Style Queen: Lilli Palmer (1914 - 1986)

The Evil Style Queen: Lilli Palmer (1914 - 1986)

I have just read the blog at the address above about Lilli Palmer and Carlos Thompson.  I used to work for them when they lived in the South of France.  It brought back many lovely memories of that time, as they were charming and very amusing!  Lovely people that I still think about often.

Such a sad end for her husband ( which I did not know about).  As time went by there was less contact as I had moved to Ireland, although 'Our Lilli' as Carlos and myself would call her, contacted me to ask me to work for her in Switzerland as her secretary and to travel with her.  She was writing books at that time so it would have been easy for me to type, as that was my training.  Unfortunately I was brought up to follow my husband, (things have changed a lot since then.) so even though she offered to let my husband come too (he is a french chef) he did not want to go, so that was that!

But Lilli Palmer has always been a part of my fond memories,  and always will be.
